Sunset over West Sedona as seen from the vantage point of Schnebly Hill near Merry-Go-Round Rock. This spot is one of Sedona�s most spectacular locations to view sunset. It is also, however, one of the most difficult to access. Schnebly Hill is an old wagon road begun in the late 1890s. Little seems to have changed since then. The road intersects Hwy 179 at the bridge at Oak Creek. The road proceeds east, winding and switchbacking its way up the rim for 13 miles before connecting with Hwy 17. Although a brief portion of the road is paved on the outskirts of town, the remainder of the climb is unpaved. In some places it can get quite bruising. Passenger vehicles can travel this road but 4 WD is recommended. Munds Wagon hiking trail parallels the road. By hiking trail or wagon road, Schnebly Hill is quite an adventure.
